For many kids of the 90s, Goosebumps was their gateway into the horror genre. But for me, it was Scholastic’s Point Horror novels, which my local library just happened to have in spades. So imagine my delight in hearing that HBO Max is developing a horror anthology series based on the spine-tingling books, a few dozen of which were written by R.L. Stine.
Titled Point Fear, the series comes to us from Picturestart and Lionsgate Television and will be executive produced by Stine and Yvonne M. Bernard. According to Variety, each episode will be inspired by one of the books and will focus on the horrors of being a teenager.
While the series will be designed for a modern audience, it’ll still offer a nostalgic nod to the 90s. Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) is in talks to direct and executive produce.
