After she received a knife to the guts in 2011’s Scream 4, the fate of fan-favourite character Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere) remained a mystery for over a decade. A blink-and-you’ll-miss-it Easter egg in the latest Scream movie revealed Kirby did in fact survive her encounter with Ghostface, and we’ll soon be seeing more of her—because Panettiere has officially signed on for Scream 6!
Scream 2022’s Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Jenna Ortega will also be back for the sequel, which will follow “four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.” Plot details remain under wraps.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who directed the latest Scream movie, are back at the helm for Scream 6, with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick returning to script the film. Franchise creator Kevin Williamson will executive produce alongside Chad Villella, Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre, Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad, and Marianne Maddalena.
Scream 6 is slated to slash into theatres worldwide on March 31st, 2023.
