We may not have a new Halloween movie releasing this year, but we have the next best thing as the 1978 original returns to theatres!
In a move to celebrate the franchise’s 45th anniversary, CineLife has partnered with Compass International Pictures and Trancas International Films to bring John Carpenter’s classic back to the big screen.
Joining the 1978 original will be 1988’s Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and its 1989 sequel Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, quite the triple bill, no? This will mark the eighth time in the past ten years that the trio have hit theatres for the fall season. Seen as a tradition to series owner Malek Akkad, the only years the producer has missed were 2020 and 2021, as the Pandemic delays left precious little room for nostalgia screenings.
Check your local listings to confirm if there’s a Myers triple feature coming your way, the screenings will begin October 12th and run until the big day, October 31st.
Away from the big screen, we attained some further news on the future of the Halloween franchise as a bidding war continues over who will bring The Shape back. Speaking at the Halloween: 45 Years of Terror convention October 1st, Malek Akkad confirmed that all we have heard is true.
The series owner remains vague on specifics, but assured fans “cool stuff” was on the way. The producer elaborated that there is also the potential for a video game in addition to film and television projects. Although likely unable to confirm or deny anything due to ongoing contract negotiations, Akkad stated that fans should expect some kind of announcement to drop this Halloween, so not long to wait!
Although it’s only been a year without him, it doesn’t seem that Michael Myers can stay away very long these days, and we’re more than happy with that!
