“HALLOWEEN: THE GAME” BANNED IN AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND

Posted on: August 20th, 2026

We’re less than a month away from the release of Halloween: The Game.

There’s a great deal of hype surrounding the franchise’s leap into multiplayer horror gaming, with the Halloween brand promoting the venture non-stop.

Everything seems set to be quite the success, but now, we’ve hit a bump in the road.

According to the official HTVG X account, the video game will not be released in Australia and New Zealand.

Asked by a fan on Twitter why Halloween: The Game is not listed for pre-order in Oceania, the game makers revealed that they had been denied a certificate, saying:
“Despite every effort on our part, the Australian Classifications Board has denied “Halloween: The Game” a rating.”

Interestingly, the game hasn’t been denied a certificate because of the hacking and slashing involved. What the Australian Classifications Board objected to is the “use of a controlled substance” in the game.

This is not the first time the organisation has lodged this objection against a video game, so it’s perhaps no surprise this has happened.

Despite this bump in the road, Halloween: The Game is still scheduled to release digitally on September 8th on PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC. A physical release will follow on October 6th, just in time for Halloween!
