Gravitas Ventures has acquired the rights to Awaken the Shadowman, a supernatural horror from first-time director J. S. Wilson. The story centres on two brothers who discover a supernatural threat and a cult when investigating the disappearance of their mother.
According to Wilson, the film has been inspired by true events from his childhood. He does not elaborate, but does say that the story “Is based on actual phenomena”. The film’s original title was The Ones Above which suggests multiple threats, but its new title suggests just the one villainous entity. We’re intrigued to see what shape this Shadowman will take and how his conjuring links to the brothers’ search for their mother. Perhaps she’s become a sacrifice…
