Goodnight Mommy to get an English Language Remake

Posted on: September 10th, 2018

I’m surprised it took this long, if I’m honest. The critically acclaimed Austrian horror Goodnight Mommy is to get an English language remake from director Matt Sobel. Sobel only has the 1 feature to his name, 2015’s hard-hitting drama Take Me to the River.

Goodnight Mommy was released in 2014 and focused on twin boys who move to a new home with their mother after she received cosmetic surgery. However, they start to believe that it’s not their mother beneath the bandages.

When speaking about his re-telling of the story, Sobel says:
“Our re-imagining of Goodnight Mommy aims to create an immersive nightmare, with visceral sensations front and centre.”

The original Goodnight Mommy was an eerie and unsettling watch, so I’m intrigued to see how an English language remake can match up to its weirdness.
