Ghostbusters: Afterlife seemingly did the impossible and crafted a worthy and popular sequel to a property that has been hit and miss as a series. Following the failure of 2016’s Ghostbusters reboot, it seemed unlikely the series would regain favour with the public.
2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife not only brought back our core cast in their iconic roles, but also introduced a new generation of phantom fighters in Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard and McKenna Grace. Given its box-office haul of over $200 million, there was no way this was the end for the Ghostbusters.
Currently filming, the as-yet-untitled fourth Ghostbusters movie is working under the title Firehouse, and will reportedly take the series back to New York City once again.
Previous cast members Paul Rudd, McKenna Grace and Ernie Hudson are returning, with newcomers Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjiani, Emily Alyn Lind and James Acaster rounding out the cast.
No confirmation has been given if Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, or Finn Wolfhard will reprise their roles here, but we will keep an eye on the production for any new information.
Ghostbusters 4 is expected to release on December 20th 2023.
