Recently, we reported that Spyglass Media was prepping their next big horror outing. No, not Scream 7, but the horror rom-com Heart Eyes.
Penned by Happy Death Day’s Christopher Landon, the project stars Scream’s Mason Gooding. The plot will centre on a serial killer targeting couples on Valentine’s Day. Hijinks ensue as he mistakes a pair of colleagues as a couple and pursues them relentlessly.
Now, we have a further update on the project, which is currently filming in New Zealand.
Genre regulars Devon Sawa and Jordana Brewster have joined the Heart Eyes cast in undisclosed roles.
Sawa rose to prominence in the late nineties as a teen, and went on to capture worldwide attention starring in Final Destination and Idle Hands. Although he continued to work steadily, it wasn’t until Don Mancini cast Sawa in the Chucky television series that the actor returned to the mainstream. Cast as a different character every season, Sawa has become a Chucky fan favourite, and it is wonderful to hear he’ll be returning to horror features.
Although most recognisable for her turns in the Fast and Furious series, genre fans undoubtedly associate Jordana Brewster with 1999’s The Faculty. The actress steals the show as the vapid mean girl forced to seek out a group of misfits as aliens invade their school. She later proved to be quite the tactical final girl when she battled Leatherface and his kin in Texas Chain Saw Massacre: The Beginning. Most recently, Brewster also fought for her life in the gritty Random Acts of Violence.
So, with a growing cast that looks phenomenal, Heart Eyes is one to watch. Could the heart eyed emoji become our next iconic slasher killer? We’re looking forward to finding out.
