Before his latest feature, Annihilation was released, author and director Alex Garland revealed details of a sci-fi series he has been developing for FX, entitled Devs. As reported by Deadline this week, FX has now given the pilot order, with Garland set to direct the episode.
Talking to Collider recently, Garland had the following to say about the series, which will tell a contained story over the course of eight episodes.
“It’s about a particular aspect of technology at the moment which is to do with very, very big data and very powerful processing power, and what can happen when you put the two things together. It’s set in San Francisco… a sort of tech story.”
And here’s the newly-released synopsis:
“In Devs, which will be produced by FX Productions, a young computer engineer, Lily, investigates the secretive development division of her employer, a cutting-edge tech company based in San Francisco, which she believes is behind the disappearance of her boyfriend.”
Garland has already written all eight episodes, and previously said that he hopes to direct them all. He is also set to executive produce the pilot, alongside DNA TV and Scott Rudin Productions.
