Just a week after dropping their first teaser, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have given us a much better look at Zach Cregger’s Weapons.
Playing on every parent’s fear, the clip is narrated by a young girl, as she recounts the tale of an entire class of children mysteriously vanishing in the night.
Throughout, we are introduced to various characters, and glimpsing how they choose to handle the unthinkable tragedy. Among them, we meet Julia Garner’s Justine Gandy, the teacher whose class has vanished.
The town begins to unravel, many seeming to blame Miss Gandy for what has happened. During one particularly heated sequence, Josh Brolin’s Archer Graff confronts Garner at a town meeting.
As we see the teacher shunned, we witness her begin to suffer nightmares, where she encounters a classroom full of undead children. Is it only a dream, or is it a clue to a much darker mystery.
With hysteria taking hold, the trailer climaxes in a series of quick shots, and we glimpse weapons, a mob, and fire, among other disturbing snatches.
Described as a “horror epic” by creator Zach Cregger, the trailer is certainly intriguing. The clip is dripping with an eerie atmosphere of unease, and creates a palpable sense of dread.
Amassing over eight million views in its first two days, the trailer seems to prove that Warner Bros. were justified in pushing Weapons up to a summer blockbuster slot.
