It’s the year of Chucky, because we’re getting a brand new TV series and a remake of the original Child’s Play film. The first trailer has been revealed for the latter, showcasing a modernised reinvention of the killer doll story that has been terrifying us since 1988.
The new trailer doesn’t show us Chucky AKA the Buddi doll, but we do get a taste of the terror that he’s going to be unleashing. It looks like it’s going to be a scary one. Director Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) is at the helm, stepping into the shoes of Tom Holland.
The new story will similarly follow a mother (Aubrey Plaza) who buys a Buddi doll for her son, only to be tormented by his new best friend whose AI has gone rather wrong. This deviates the film from the original tales, as we know that Chucky was possessed by the soul of a deceased serial killer.
It’s uncertain how this is going to change things, as we don’t get a good look or hear anything from the new Chucky. Will he be witty or will he be straight-up terrifying? I guess we’ll have to find out when Child’s Play is unleashed 21st June 2019.
