FREDDIE PRINZE JR TALKS “LAST SUMMER” SEQUEL: “I HAVEN’T BEEN OFFERED ANYTHING”

Posted on: March 14th, 2023

90s slasher fans rejoiced in February of this year when it was announced that a Scream style legacy sequel was in the works for, I Know What You Did Last Summer. What really got people talking were whispers that original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. were “approached” to return. Could this long misfiring series be poised for a big return?

Well… we still aren’t sure. As Entertainment Tonight Canada reports, Freddie Prinze Jr. is steadfast that an offer hasn’t come his way yet. Furthermore, the actor elaborated on an upcoming episode of his That Was Pretty Scary podcast that he only found out of his “involvement” when the media announced it last month.

“I have been offered nothing, nothing. They just said that to get people excited. I haven’t spoken to anyone at their company, my agents haven’t received an offer from them whatsoever.”

Although worrying, the actor then affirmed that the film’s director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson then reached out to him and pitched her idea.

“I had a conversation with the director a few days after they announced that, just to be like, ‘Yo, what the hell? Why are they saying I’m going to be in a movie I’m probably not going to be in?’ And she said, ‘Let me pitch you the idea.’ So, she’s spoken to me about the idea, but I haven’t said yes, I haven’t received an offer.”

This is certainly puzzling, as the project was announced with such certainty. Prinze Jr. elaborated that he’d like the film to be “grounded in reality,” referencing the supernatural elements introduced in the much maligned third entry, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer.

Word from series star Jennifer Love Hewitt on the announcement is yet to materialise, but Prinze Jr.’s comments certainly leave this legacy sequel up in the air. This is one story we’ll have to watch.
