FREDDIE PRINZE JR ON “LAST SUMMER” SEQUEL: “I’M MOTIVATED, THEY’RE MOTIVATED”

Posted on: August 9th, 2024

News about Sony’s I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel has been coming thick and fast of late.

Our last sizeable update came just last week when we learned who our main cast would be. Whilst it was extremely exciting to finally put some faces to this highly-anticipated feature, fans only wanted to know one thing…

What about the legacy characters?

It’s been reported tirelessly that original IKWYDLS leads Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr were attached to the project. Whilst Hewitt has dropped several hints about her involvement, Prinze has remained silent… until now.

During the promotional campaign for his latest film The Girl in the Pool, Prinze finally spoke on his involvement with the sequel:
“Nothing’s a lock until there’s ink on paper, until the contract’s signed, but I’m definitely talking to them. And if we can make everything work — and I know they wanna make everything work, I know I wanna make everything work — then we’ll try and make it work. But we gotta make sure everyone’s schedules fit.”

Prinze continued:
“I’m motivated, I know they’re motivated. I know both sides are trying to make it work. And hopefully we do.”

So, Prinze has at least acknowledged himself as being in the mix for the sequel. The actor’s statements are a far cry from his March 2023 claims that nothing had been offered to him, and he and Hewitt’s names were only being used as “hype.”

However, it’s quite clear Prinze has yet to sign a contract, so we’ll keep an eye on that and report any changes.

Elsewhere, a reliable source tells us the legacy sequel is set to begin filming later this month in California, and that Jennifer Love Hewitt is officially aboard. Furthermore, rumours of a cameo by former cast member Sarah Michelle Gellar continue to circle the project.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is expected to hit theatres July 18th 2025, and will star Camila Mendes, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers and Jonah Hauer-King alongside our legacy cast.

More announcements are expected soon.
