If, like me, you’re still reeling from the disappointment of The Cloverfield Paradox, then you may be pleased to know that the fourth film will be released in cinemas. Paramount has announced its plans to release the tentatively titled film Overlord in cinemas from 26th October 2018, whether this means an improvement in quality, will remain to be seen.
The Cloverfield Paradox did not sit well with test audiences, so Paramount decided to sell the film to Netflix for over $50 million to ensure the film instantly profited. The release was announced during last weekend’s Superbowl and the film hit the streaming service later that evening. It was the first release of its kind, setting up a new marketing strategy which equates to no marketing at all. It was a risky move, but if word of mouth – and social media – is anything to go by, it did the job.
Overlord will follow American paratroopers on the eve of D-Day as they encounter supernatural forces. The film has, so far, garnered more positivity than The Cloverfield Paradox, so our faith in the Cloverfield franchise is not quite gone entirely.
This film seems to be taking the Clover-verse in another completely different direction, so we’re excited to see what this War set Cloverfield will bring. Overlord will be released on 26th October 2018.
