Week by week it seems Blumhouse is powering forward with their long-awaited adaption of the wildly popular Five Nights at Freddy’s series.
This past week brings us the rather surprising news that the movie, which just wrapped six weeks of production, will be released on October 27th 2023.
What’s more, Jason Blum himself confirmed via Twitter that Five Nights at Freddy’s will release to theatres and on streaming service Peacock simultaneously. This is not an unheard of move on the part of distributor Universal, as the studio followed an identical release strategy with 2021’s Halloween Kills and its 2022 sequel Halloween Ends.
Alongside this announcement, we got our first look at the film with a photo of the titular Freddy’s Pizza place.
The news comes just weeks after Blumhouse confirmed a cast of notable actors including Josh Hutcherson, Scream’s Matthew Lillard, Mary Stuart Masterson and Elizabeth Lail of Netflix’s You.
Exact plot details are still unknown, but it’s assumed the film will mirror the events of the game closely. In the game one must survive five nights as a security guard at Freddy’s Pizzeria. The job is made increasingly difficult by the mischievous deeds of the restaurant’s blood-hungry animatronic mascots.
Will a day-and-date release hurt Five Nights at Freddy’s chances at the box-office? We’ll bring you the numbers come its October 27th release.
