“They’re out there, Mike… Everywhere…”
News continues to flow out of Las Vegas’ Cinema-Con convention, as more studios tease their upcoming releases.
However, as Universal Pictures took centre stage, we were blessed with an almost unheard-of event. As Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum prepared to present a packed roster for his company, he promised genre fans something that caused palpable excitement online.
Whilst introducing the first teaser trailer for Emma Tammi’s sequel Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, Blum announced the trailer would debut online the next day. True to his word, the clip dropped, and soon went viral.
It is the usual practice that footage debuted at Cinema-Con will remain unseen by the public for weeks, or even months. So, to have footage debut almost immediately could be a game-changer for fans in the future.
In the newly released clip, we see everything a genre fan could want from a sequel. Returning characters are a-plenty, and the movie seems to be on a considerably larger scale than its 2023 original. Now, Freddy Fazbear and his band of animatronic cohorts are seen interacting with the world beyond their titular pizzeria much more. Does this grander scale mean Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will have higher stakes? Or perhaps be a tad gorier than the previous entry? We’re optimistic!
As well as director Emma Tammi and her co-writer Scott Cawthon, the sequel sees the return of actors Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lall, Matthew Lillard, and Piper Rubio. They will be joined by newcomers including Scream Queen Mckenna Grace, Chucky star Teo Briones, and Seinfeld favourite Wayne Knight.
With the original marking Blumhouse’s highest opening weekend in history, it’s understandable why they’d want to start hype for this sequel as soon as possible. Given the astronomical views, we’d say the strategy is working!
