For the last 40 years or so, Stephen King’s stories have never been too far from the screen, but adaptations of his books have surely never been arriving with such frequency as they are now. One of the many fresh interpretations of the author’s work heading our way is AT&T Audience Network’s series based on King’s 2014 novel Mr. Mercedes. Check out this first batch of images from the show, which includes our first look at Penny Dreadful’s Harry Treadaway as deranged killer Brady Hartsfield.
Joining Treadaway in the cast are the near-legendary Brendan Gleeson (28 Days Later…, Gangs of New York), who leads as Detective Bill Hodges, Kelly Lynch as Deborah Hartsfield, Justine Lupe as Holly Gibney and Breeda Wool as Lou Linklatter. Newcomer Jharrel Jerome plays Jerome Robinson, with Avatar’s Scott Lawrence as Detective Peter Dixon, Mercury Rising’s Robert Stanton as Anthony “Robi” Frobisher and Ann Cusack (Nightcrawler, Stigmata) as Olivia Trelawney. Word is that King himself will appear in a cameo role.
Mr. Mercedes follows Gleeson’s Detective Hodges, a retired cop who is taunted by a series of obscene and lurid letters and emails from Treadaway’s deranged murderer Hartsfield. Taking matters into his own hands, Hodges embarks on a lone, potentially felonious crusade to bring the psycho to justice before he can strike again.
The 10-episode series is expected to air in the summer.
