Overlord director Julius Avery is bringing the tale of real-life exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth to the big screen in The Pope’s Exorcist—and the image above gives us our first look at Russell Crowe (Unhinged) in the role.
Amorth, who died in 2016 at the age of 91, was an Italian priest who performed over 100,000 exorcisms for the Vatican. Alex Essoe (Doctor Sleep) and Daniel Zovatto (It Follows) will star alongside Crowe in the film, which is now in production.
Evan Spiliotopoulos wrote the current draft of The Pope’s Exorcist, with revisions by Chuck MacLean. This version was based on original drafts written by Chester Hastings and R. Dean McCreary and revised by Michael Petroni. Ángel Gómez (Voices) was previously attached to direct.
