Universal and Blumhouse have been working on a new adaptation of Stephen King’s 1980 novel Firestarter, and the first trailer has arrived to heat up our expectations.

Directed by Keith Thomas (The Vigil) and written by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills), Firestarter follows Charlie, a young girl who develops pyrokinetic abilities and is abducted by a secret government agency that wants to harness her powerful gift as a weapon. Ryan Kiera Armstrong (It Chapter Two) stars as Charlie, the role played by Drew Barrymore in the 1984 adaptation.

Zac Efron (Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile) and Sydney Lemmon (Fear the Walking Dead) are playing Charlie’s parents. Also starring in the remake are Michael Greyeyes (Blood Quantum), Gloria Reuben (Lincoln), Kurtwood Smith (Amityville: The Awakening), and John Beasley (The Purge: Anarchy). The late Martha De Laurentiis served as an executive producer.

Firestarter arrives in theatres and on the streaming service Peacock on May 13th. Don’t miss the fiery trailer below!
