When we brought you the initial teaser for The First Omen, we weren’t sure what to say. As you may recall, the clip was less than a minute long, and told entirely in reverse.
However, with less than a month to go before release, 20th Century Studios have gifted us with a much more traditional final trailer, giving us a clear look at what’s in store.
Giving incredibly strong Gothic horror vibes, we get a clear look at the European convent setting, as well as Nell Tiger Free as our main protagonist.
Furthermore, the clip makes clear something that was only hinted at in previously released promo material. The First Omen will explore the Catholic church in crisis, with less power over the world, they resort to fear as a means of control… The Church creates the Anti-Christ. As is spoken in the trailer, “the best way to make people believe is to give them something to fear…”
This approach adds much-needed substance to The Omen mythos, as the trope of Damien Thorn being the spawn of Satan, performing devious deeds, had run a little thin over the years.
Although an unexpected prequel, and flying somewhat under the radar, we’re very curious to see how The First Omen performs upon it’s April 5th release.
