Every time he bangs his drum… someone dies.
NEON have blessed us with a final, blood-soaked, red-band trailer for The Monkey, and it’s quite the sight to behold. Based on Stephen King’s short story of the same name, acclaimed filmmaker Osgood Perkins seems to be delivering another powerhouse.
Beginning with a literal bang, the trailer sees an unfortunate executor get shot in the face, just as the titular monkey bangs its drum.
This clip sets the tone for the rest of the trailer, as we witness twin brothers Hal and Bill attempt to come together to stop the seemingly adorable wind-up toy. In scenes that would feel right at home in Final Destination, we witness a series of freak accidents plague the brothers. Each one is more horrifying than the last, with buckets of gore spilled.
Flashbacks also let us know that the titular toy has been causing chaos for decades, as we see the brothers’ childhood blighted by carnage. Yet somehow, The Monkey has escaped its prison at the bottom of a well, where the children put it long ago.
The White Lotus star Theo James will star as Hal and Bill, with Sweet Tooth and Cocaine Bear actor Christian Convery portraying the younger versions of the twins. Elijah Wood, Rohan Campbell, Sarah Levy, and Tatiana Maslany round out the impressive ensemble cast. However, we can’t help but wonder how many of them will meet gruesome fates…
James Wan is producing the feature adaption under his Atomic Monster label, with NEON once again set to distribute for Perkins.
The Monkey is set to hit theatres on February 21st 2025. Check out the red band trailer below:
