After setting a franchise record with a $102 million opening weekend, Final Destination: Bloodlines has proved to have incredible staying power.
Now, after the sixth film stunned with its opening haul, it has since become the highest grossing movie in the franchise.
Besting 2009’s The Final Destination’s $187 million total, Bloodlines has emerged triumphant after crossing the $200 million mark.
The result brings to fruition the trade’s prediction that Bloodlines would hold well following its record-breaking opening. During America’s four-day Memorial Day Weekend, Final Destination: Bloodlines made an impressive $26 million.
Although not as much as it’s record-breaking opening, Bloodlines held up in the face of some daunting competition. During the holiday weekend, blockbusters Lilo & Stitch and Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning were released, and understandably knocked Bloodlines off the top spot.
However, Bloodlines’ $26 million third place finish makes the movie the highest-grossing third place film this decade.
The tremendous success of Bloodlines has understandably stirred talk of continuing the franchise. Although fans are eager for a seventh Final Destination outing, director Adam Stein commented:
“Death’s work is never done, there are always more scores to settle!”
However, Stein noted that the process could take some time, given the complex nature of the series’ storytelling techniques. Stein’s words were echoed by franchise producer Craig Perry, who also stated he is “eager” to expand the lore further.
So, after enormous financial success, it seems more Final Destination outings are on the horizon.
