After 13 years, death has officially returned with more unfinished business.
Final Destination 6 has begun filming, after a long period trapped in development hell. Even more exciting, we can expect a full theatrical release!
Officially titled Final Destination: Bloodlines, the wrap on production’s first day was confirmed by producer Craig Perry. In a post on X, Perry kept fans updated with the following:
“After a long, hard slog through the pandemic and the strikes, Day One is finally in the can.”
Subtly confirming a theatrical release is on the cards, Perry noted that a theatrical movie will be the perfect way to mark the series’ 25th anniversary next year. Originally, Final Destination: Bloodlines was expected to debut on Max.
“2025 will mark the 25th anniversary of the release of the first instalment in the franchise. To honor the occasion with another worldwide theatrical release (in IMAX, no less) is a rare and wonderful thing.”
Signing off with a joke, Perry noted that their chosen title is identical to a certain prequel released last year, but defiantly announced his project has had it longer.
“See you next year! PS: I know, I know — Pet Sematary: Bloodlines. But this is the title we’ve had for three years, and we’re keeping it… for now.”
Currently, plot and cast details on this sixth entry are a closely guarded secret, with only rumours to go on. The only things we know for certain is that Tony Todd will return as William Bloodworth, and that a particularly gruesome death scene will take place in a body modification parlour. Currently, that’s enough for us to get excited.
Bloodlines is being directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein of 2018’s Freaks, from a script by Scream’s Guy Busick and Spiderman’s Jon Watts, who will also produce.
Said to be a “new and interesting” take on the established Final Destination formula, we’re looking forward to seeing how this one turns out.
