“FEAR STREET: PROM QUEEN” TOPS STREAMING CHARTS DESPITE NEGATIVE RECEPTION

Posted on: June 3rd, 2025

Given the magnitude of the promotional push behind it, it’s perhaps little surprise that Fear Street: Prom Queen topped the worldwide streaming charts in the week since its release.

The fourth entry in the slasher franchise based on R. L. Stine’s book series, Prom Queen immediately became the most streamed piece of media across the United States, the week beginning May 26th.

Although this is a win for Netflix, the sizeable streaming numbers are not bolstered by a positive reception.

Unlike its franchise alumni, Prom Queen has received scathing reviews from critics. Described as “derivative,” and lacking the ingenuity of previous instalments, reviewers found little to praise of the fourth entry.

Unfortunately, despite the high streaming numbers, it appears audiences echo the critical sentiment.

Shockingly, Fear Street: Prom Queen is currently sitting at just 27% on Rotten Tomatoes. This is in stark contrast to 2021’s Fear Street trilogy, sitting at 87%, 88%, and 89% respectively.

So, what’s next for Fear Street given the rather disastrous reception?

We know that Prom Queen was supposed to kick off another trilogy, with Stine confirming last year that two more movies were in development. Although, it is unknown what books these potential instalments will adapt.

However, following the poor reaction to Prom Queen, will this be the end for Fear Street?

We’ll be watching closely for any further news, and let you know if a return to Shadyside is on the cards.
