“It’s Shadyside… when’s it all going to go wrong?
After keeping us waiting for a trailer for what seems like an eternity, Netflix have finally decided to give us our first look at Fear Street: Prom Queen in action!
Beginning in a cunningly deceiving manner, Prom Queen could be mistaken for a classic 1980s comedy in the vein of John Hughes.
All set to Belinda Carlise’s Heaven is a Place on Earth, the clip initially seems like a feel-good tale of teens preparing for prom. We meet a series of quirky characters, including our jokey protagonist, and a fantastically eighties high-school mean girl.
However, this is a slasher film, after all, right? Never fear, Netflix has come through, arguably giving us the most aggressive, adrenaline-driven Fear Street entry yet.
Paying homage to the striking visuals of Giallo cinema, Prom Queen introduces us to a killer in a bright red mack. Always armed with a trusty axe, they begin trimming the student body, taking a special interest in the girls running for Prom Queen.
Looking like a huge slice of slasher movie fun, Fear Street: Prom Queen has the potential to outdo the previous entries in every sense.
Undoubtedly the trailer has amped up excitement for the film considerably, so we can likely expect some admirable debut streaming numbers.
Fear Street: Prom Queen comes to us from writer-director Matt Palmer, and stars Ariana Greenblatt, India Fowler, Suzanna Son, Chris Klein, and Lili Taylor.
The movie will release via Netflix, and be available to stream from May 23rd.
