FANS AND COLLEAGUES SUPPORT MATTHEW LILLARD AMID TARANTINO BACKLASH

Posted on: December 17th, 2025

Fans, colleagues, and family have rallied around Scream star Matthew Lillard following disparaging comments made by filmmaker Quentin Tarantino.

Speaking on a recent podcast, Tarantino was asked which Hollywood actors he “didn’t rate,” or didn’t find talented. Lillard was one of three names the director mentioned, alongside stars Owen Wilson and Paul Dano.

Whilst Wilson and Dano have received a great deal of support following Tarantino’s comments, it’s Lillard’s inclusion that has made many come out swinging.

Fans have taken to social media, slating Tarantino’s comments, and citing Lillard’s turns in Scream and Scooby Doo as proof of his range and talent as a performer.

Similarly, industry colleagues have come to Lillard’s defence, including Don Mancini, Skeet Ulrich, Josh Hutcherson, Rose McGowan, and Kevin Williamson.

Of Tarantino’s comments, Lillard spoke of the impact words can have on a performer, and stated his belief that Tarantino only targeted performers not considered “Hollywood.”

‘It hurts your feelings, it fucking sucks and he wouldn’t say that to Tom Cruise. He wouldn’t say that to somebody who’s a top-line actor in Hollywood … it’s humbling, and it hurts. Whatever, who gives a shit.’

The outpouring of support for Lillard undoubtedly flies directly in the face of Tarantino’s comments.

So too does the fact that Lillard appears more in-demand than ever. After all, the actor is in the world’s top-grossing movie of late, and has several high-profile projects in the works.

So, what does Quentin Tarantino know, huh?
