Some weeks ago, we brought you news from a reliable source that Faces of Death had performed positively at multiple test screenings. Whilst encouraging, it still wasn’t an official announcement that brought us any closer to release… But now, we have one!
Legendary Pictures and the MPAA confirm that Faces of Death is rater R for:
“Strong bloody violence and gore, sexual content, nudity, language and drug use.”
Of course, it’s a remake of Faces of Death… we wouldn’t expect any less.
The 1978 original ignited controversy when it purported to be a “documentary” showing actual deaths via news footage and “recovered” film. Whilst most of the footage was deemed to be staged, this didn’t stop the film becoming infamous, and it was subsequently banned in numerous countries.
The reboot will take a meta-approach, following the moderator of a “YouTube-like website,” whose job it is to flag any offensive material. However, she stumbles across a group of depraved individuals “recreating” deaths from the infamous 1978 original.
From filmmakers Isa Mazzei and Daniel Goldhaber, Faces of Death stars Dacre Montgomery of Stranger Things, Cocaine Bear’s Aaron Holliday, and musician Charli XCX in her feature debut.
Whilst a release date is not yet set, the film being rated means one can’t be far away. Stay tuned!
