Hot off its Fantasia film festival success, THE BLOCK ISLAND SOUND, the latest genre-blending shocker from Kevin and Matthew McManus, the filmmakers behind Funeral Kings and writers/producers of “American Vandal” and “Cobra Kai”, has made its way to Netflix to reach the audience it deserves.
Blending sci-fi, conspiracy theories and addressing mental health stigmas, the film takes audiences off to the remote coastal village of Block Island where something sinister seems to have taken control of fisherman, Tom Lynch (Neville Archambault). After suffering a series of unexplainable violent outbursts and the return of his estranged daughters to the town, its not long before he unknowingly puts his entire family in grave danger.
With the film having released this week on Netflix, SCREAM sat down with the co-writers/co-directors and the film’s lead, Chris Sheffield who revealed why Block Island is the perfect setting for a horror movie and how they navigated instilling sheer terror in the audience whilst addressing themes of grievance and mental health issues as sympathetically as possible.
