He is unquestionably a legend and one of the most beloved figures in the horror fandom. That’s why it is with a heavy heart that we report the news that Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell has been diagnosed with cancer.
Campbell, best known for his role as Ash Williams in the Evil Dead franchise, made the announcement on March 2nd.
In a lengthy post on X, Campbell confirmed he had a cancer that was “treatable but not curable,” stating:
“It’s also called a type of cancer that’s “treatable” but not “curable.” I apologize if that’s a shock – it was to me too.”
Campbell sought to assure fans that he has every intention of fighting the disease, and strives to live the best possible life he can with cancer:
“Fear not, I am a tough son-of-a-bitch and I have great support, so I expect to be around for a while yet.”
However, Campbell did express his regret that several professional commitments would have to be put on hold or cancelled completely. Although, the actor expects to be well enough to promote his film project Ernie and Emma this fall:
“I am posting this because professionally, a few things will have to change – appearances, cons, and work in general need to take a back seat to treatment. My plan is to get as well as I possibly can over the summer so that I can tour with my new movie Ernie and Emma this fall.”
Campbell’s announcement was met with a plethora of support, both from fans and industry colleagues. Names including Barbara Crampton, Bill Moseley, Caroline Williams, and Sam Raimi wished Campbell well.
Campbell opted to keep the type of cancer he was diagnosed with private, as well as his five-year survival prognosis.
We wish Bruce all the best in his cancer journey. Undoubtedly, he’ll tackle the disease with the same unstoppable vigour of Ash Williams.
