We are just one month away from the latest instalment of the seminal zombie series Evil Dead. Now that we’re on the home straight it seems the perfect time to build a little hype around the film and director Lee Cronin certainly isn’t disappointing fans.
Speaking this past week following the film’s premiere at the SXSW Festival, Cronin teased a cameo by series star Bruce Campbell. Despite feeling a need to tell a new story and not depend on Campbell’s Ash Williams, the director couldn’t resist a nod.
“It felt like in order to move the franchise somewhere new and to unlock the potential of the universe to tell more stories, it needed to break free [of Ash.] But Bruce is hidden in the movie somewhere. Bruce has a small presence in the movie.
Furthermore, Cronin has issued a challenge to moviegoers to find Campbell and he will make it worth their while.
“The first person to figure it out and send me a tweet, I’ll give them 50 bucks.”
Evil Dead Rise has won universal praise following its screening at SXSW and is currently sitting at an impressive 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. All of this bodes very well for a franchise that has been out of theatres for a decade.
Will Evil Dead Rise take the franchise to new heights… and will we be able to find Bruce Campbell? We’ll find out when the film hits theatres on April 21st.
