It’s been a long time coming… In fact, it’s been 16 years since Eli Roth debuted a fantastic trailer for Thanksgiving. The movie didn’t exist, but fitted perfectly into the previews crafted for Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s double feature Grindhouse.
The trailer was so effective with its old-school slasher hijinks that fans cried out desperately to have it become a fully-fledged feature… Now, Thanksgiving is here, and we have our first look in a brand-new teaser trailer.
Dressed up like the perfect Lifetime holiday movie, the trailer sets Thanksgiving up as the tale of a perfect town all set to celebrate the festivities. Complete with cheesy, soppy music, we witness the annual Thanksgiving parade, families sitting down to beautifully roasted turkey, and corny speeches about life’s blessings.
The clip then quickly pivots to promise us the ultimate Thanksgiving slasher, as one poor character is dunked in boiling oil then stuck to a freezer. The moment that has fans talking the most is a cheerleader on a trampoline… Viewers of the Grindhouse trailer know that this beautiful lady will get a knife in a very… intimate place.
Promising to make Capotain hats terrifying, Thanksgiving looks set to become the first mainstream slasher about the holiday. Of course, there have been other offerings, most notably 1983’s Blood Rage, but none ever had a wide theatrical release until now.
Starring Patrick Dempsey, Gina Gershon, Addison Rae and Milo Manheim, Thanksgiving will release on November 17th 2023 and promises more than just the turkey will be carved. The perfect treat to get you in that holiday mood, Thanksgiving looks set to become a yearly staple for genre fans. Check out the first trailer below!
