Seemingly a horror nerd first and filmmaker second, Eli Roth is about as vocal a champion of the genre as any. The motormouth director seems a fine choice then, to host a new documentary series chronicling the journey and evolution of onscreen terror, which AMC has just announced.
The network that brought us The Walking Dead unveiled the tentatively titled AMC Visionaries: Eli Roth’s History of Horror at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. It will be a six-part spotlight on horror forming part of AMC’s ‘Visionaries’ series, together with the also recently announced AMC Visionaries: James Cameron’s Story of Science Fiction and Robert Kirkman’s Secret History of Comics.
“I’m thrilled to be part of this incredible series,” Roth enthuses. “For years, I’ve wanted to create a definitive ‘History of Horror,’ a living record of the genre with interviews from all the greats, old and new. Sadly, we lose more of these masters every year and with them go their stories and experiences. This show will serve as a record for future generations — fans and filmmakers alike — to enjoy. I could not be prouder to create this with AMC.”
AMC Visionaries: Eli Roth’s History of Horror will premiere sometime in 2018.
