The trailer for Clown in a Cornfield warned us that “everyone is a friend of Frendo…”
Well, that seems to be quite true, given the film’s impressive opening weekend performance.
Whilst looking scant on paper, Clown in a Cornfield’s domestic opening weekend haul of $3.7 million is rather impressive.
First, the film opened above the $3 million estimation, proving that Shudder and the IFC Group’s extensive marketing campaign has paid off.
Next, it can’t go without note that the movie’s final box-office tally is the highest opening weekend for a Shudder/IFC release to date. This eclipses the record previously held by their runaway hit Late Night with the Devil, which opened to a still-impressive $2.9 million.
With an international roll-out still ahead, Clown in a Cornfield will undoubtedly garner more profits down the line. But as it stands, the film has already recouped its budget of less than $1 million.
Given the universally positive critical reception, Clown in a Cornfield is also expected to hold well in the coming weeks, and perform admirably when released in other territories.
So, it looks like Frendo’s dream of rivalling Art the Clown in the slasher stakes could become a reality.
Clown in a Cornfield will open in the UK, and across select European markets, on June 6th 2025.
