Despite the challenges that 2020 created for those in the film industry, some directors kept themselves quietly busy—and Neill Blomkamp (District 9) was among them! The director made a top-secret supernatural horror movie during the pandemic, his first feature-length project since 2015’s Chappie.
According to Deadline, the untitled film was shot in British Columbia over the summer and is something Blomkamp has always wanted to make. The site also notes that the movie will have “a strong sci-fi and VFX component.”
Recently, Blomkamp has been producing some fantastic short films, including Firebase and Zygote. He’s also been working on a horror movie called Inferno with Taylor Kitsch (Waco) attached to star, though that was apparently not the project he was creating in secret this year.
