J. A. Bayona, director of the Spanish supernatural shocker The Orphanage and upcoming fantasy drama A Monster Calls has signed on to direct the sequel to Jurassic World. He was previously tied to the sequel to World War Z, but he recently left the project due to pre-existing film commitments. It was only a matter of time before he was snatched up to direct a different big-budget flick, we suppose.
He’s certainly diving in at the deep end directing Jurassic World 2, although, you could say he already did that – literally – with The Impossible. Jurassic World was a monstrous success back in 2015 and secured over $1.6 billion at the global box office. J. A. Bayona is stepping into some massive shoes, but we’re confident that he can steer the film in the correct, slightly terrifying but consistently exciting, direction.
J. A. Bayona is currently gearing up for the release of A Monster Calls, which we are very excited to see on the big screen this October.
