Arriving on VOD this weekend is creature-heavy sci-fi horror Devil’s Gate, which premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. We saw the first trailer recently and, just a few days before the release, director Clay Staub has shared some rather beautiful pieces of concept art for the film.
First-time director Staub created some of the initial art to help him form the story before starting on the script. As writing got underway, he brought in artists Alison Dixon and Dan Milligan to help bring his ideas to life.
Amanda Schull of SyFy’s 12 Monkeys and Milo Ventimiglia (Rocky Balboa, The Divide) star in the film, with John Wick’s Bridget Regan, the X-Men series’ Shawn Ashmore and Jonathan Frakes, known well to Star Trek fans as Riker. Breathing life into the film’s creatures is Javier Botet (It, [REC], Mama), one of the emerging heroes of modern horror.
Synopsis:
Set in the small town of Devil’s Gate, North Dakota, the film examines the disappearance of a local woman (Regan) and her young son. Schull plays an FBI agent who helps the local sheriff (Frakes) search for answers. Partnering with a deputy (Ashmore), they track down the missing woman’s husband (Ventimiglia) and find that nothing is as it seems.
Devil’s Gate opens on VOD on January 5th, from IFC Midnight.
