With its US release imminent, a new clip has landed for Phillip Guzman’s Dead Awake, which was written by Final Destination creator Jeffrey Riddick. It shows us a bleak moment with a man who hasn’t slept in over a year, for fear of what the nights bring.
Centring around the real-life horror of sleep paralysis (explored in terrifying 2015 doc The Nightmare), the film has a storming lead cast headed by The House of the Devil’s Jocelin Donahue, who plays a social worker who finds herself battling an ancient evil following an investigation into a string of deaths. The awesome Lori Petty (Tank Girl, Orange is the New Black) also stars, along with rising star Brea Grant (Halloween II, Beyond The Gates), Jesse Bradford (Hackers, Cherry Falls), Jesse Borrego (Con Air, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series), and James Eckhouse (Avengers Assemble, Big).
Kate Bowman (Jocelin Donahue) is a straight-laced social worker who finds herself plunged into a world of supernatural terror while investigating a series of mysterious deaths. Each victim suffered from a chilling condition known as sleep paralysis, a nightmarish assault on the senses that immobilizes its victims as they dream. As a terrifying entity begins to haunt Kate’s friends and loved ones, she must fight to stay awake to stop the nightmare she’s unleashed!”
Dead Awake hits US cinemas and VOD on May 12th, from FilmRise.
