In the run up to last year’s The Dark Tower, we were also promised a TV series based on Stephen King’s adventures of The Gunslinger Roland Deschain. Since the release of the film (which wowed no one) however, we’ve heard nothing more. But while the disappointment of the film may have put an end to the planned big screen franchise, the series does still appear to be in development.
Deadline wrote this last week about a bunch of new genre TV projects in the works over at Amazon, and while they gave no details, The Dark Tower was nestled in the list.
“…Amazon made a mega deal for a Lord Of the Rings TV series,” the site reported, “and is developing a slew of high-profile titles, including The Dark Tower, Wheel of Time, Ringworld, Lazarus and Snow Crash.”
While the feature misfire undoubtedly puts a lot of pressure on the success of the series, the folk behind it will no doubt see it as an opportunity to right some of the film’s numerous wrongs. Hopefully we’ll know more soon about those people behind the project. The last we heard, The Walking Dead’s Glen Mazzara was onboard as showrunner.
