It seems we have our first star confirmed to be slithering into the Anaconda reboot announced last month.
With Jack Black and Paul Rudd reportedly still “in talks” to head the film, actress Daniela Melchior has been confirmed for the project.
Said to be playing a “major role” in the reboot, Melchior is an actress rapidly on the rise in Hollywood. Following significant roles in 2021’s The Suicide Squad and 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Melchior graduated to leading roles with Fast X and 2024’s Road House.
Tom Gormican, the man behind the Nicolas Cage vehicle The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, is set to write and direct for Columbia Pictures.
From the limited information we have, we’re told that the reboot will follow very few of the same beats as the 1997 original.
According to a brief press release on the project:
“The new story involves a group of friends facing mid-life crises, who are remaking their favorite movie from their youth. They head to the rainforest, only to find themselves in the fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes, and violent criminals.”
Whilst we’re told this will not be a remake of the 1997 original, the provided plot synopsis sounds suspiciously like a legacy sequel!
Although information regarding Anaconda is still sparse, we’ll keep an eye on the project for any further updates.
