CURRY BARKER DETAILS PLANS FOR “TEXAS CHAIN SAW” REBOOT

Posted on: May 6th, 2026

One of the most exciting genre announcements to come out of Cinema-Con was that The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is set to receive a reboot.

As was detailed at the time, Obsession filmmaker Curry Barker is set to tackle the project for A24.

Barker is currently on the promotional trail for his upcoming film Obsession, so of course, he’s fielding questions regarding his plans for TCM.

“I love the original,” he began. “I think that one is really raw and was really good for its time.”

Barker was also quick to note that he believes there is plenty of life and untapped potential in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre:
“I know there’s a lot of remakes. I’ve seen in some of the comments in the announcements that I’m doing it [that] a lot of people are excited about it, but a lot of people are like, ‘put this thing to bed, it’s all been done,’” said Barker, before getting dead serious: “I beg to differ. Seriously. I really think that the potential for that series has not been fully realised.”

Of his intentions for the property, Barker continued:
“I think a lot of the remakes went the opposite direction it should have gone,” he added. “I’m really excited to do a Texas Chainsaw Massacre that’s not just about a guy chasing some people around with a chainsaw, that has some heart to it. You care about these characters and want to see them survive, and you know, it’s brutal.”

So, a brutal movie with a lot of heart, and not just another “body count” movie. Undoubtedly, Barker’s words will get fans excited.

A24’s collaboration with Barker doesn’t currently have a release date, although more news is expected soon.

We’ll let you know as soon as any further Texas Chain Saw news drops.
