Universal Pictures has chosen Jeff Pinkner as the scribe of its reboot of Creature from the Black Lagoon. Pinkner has dipped his toes in various genres and has an array of different titles to his name, including The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the television series’ Fringe and Lost. He has also been tapped as the writer of Transformers 5 and an adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, so he has a lot in the pipeline.
Universal are renowned for their movie monsters and the Creature from the Black Lagoon is one of their lesser touched. Frankenstein and Dracula are the two that have endlessly starred in various adaptations, so I am eager to see the Creature return to the screen.
The film is currently in development, but details are sparse and hard to come by. Apparently Scarlett Johansson is being eyed as the leading lady – and Creature’s love interest – but there is no certainty on that, yet. Keep your ears and eyes peeled for more as it comes.
