The trailer for The Girl in the Spider’s Web has crawled online and shows the next chapter in the Dragon Tattoo series. Sony Pictures presents the film which will feature Claire Foy (The Crown) as leading lady Lisbeth Salander, taking over from Rooney Mara in Christopher Nolan’s 2012 adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Noomi Rapace who played Lisbeth in the Swedish adaptations in 2009 and 2010.
Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez is at the helm of this adaptation, which is based on the novel written by David Lagercrantz. The Girl in the Spider’s Web is the first Dragon Tattoo novel not to be written by Stieg Larsson, who sadly passed away from a heart attack in 2004.
The next chapter in the Millennium movie series, The Girl in the Spider’s Web follows Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist as they investigate a story that involves spies, cybercriminals, and government operatives – some willing to kill to protect their secrets.
I think the trailer looks pretty good, teasing the violence and darkness that is present in the books and both the excellent Swedish adaptations and Nolan’s interpretation. Foy certainly looks like she’s going to be an intense and powerful Lisbeth Salander and that’s exactly how she should be.
The Girl in the Spider’s Web will be released on 9th November 2019. The film additionally stars Sverrir Gudnason, Sylvia Hoeks, Claes Bang, Cameron Britton, LaKeith Stanfield, Vicky Krieps, and Stephen Merchant.
