It’s been the better part of a year since we had an update on the status of the controversial FX Alien series from Fargo’s Noah Hawley.
Well, we can now officially confirm that filming has wrapped on the series, and the first solid plot details have emerged.
Currently entitled Alien: Earth, the show is set 20 years prior to the events depicted in Ridley Scott’s Alien.
Sounding like much more of a procedural drama than the expected creature feature hijinks, the series will follow the emergence of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation. Rather than alien lifeforms, Alien: Earth will focus on competing corporations and their quests to be the first to create the ultimate android lifeform.
Set to star Sydney Chandler as “a hybrid, a meta-human who has the brain and consciousness of a child but the body of an adult,” Essie Davis, Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, and Ade Edmondson will also star.
Of their new show FX and Hulu tease:
“Expect a scary thrill ride set not too far in the future here on Earth.”
Alien: Earth was the subject of much controversy, as it skirted around the Hollywood strikes last year by shooting in Thailand. Furthermore, the attempted to avoid the delays by using mostly local crew and a cast that largely were not part of SAG-AFTRA.
However, production eventually shut down last summer, as stars Sydney Chandler and Timothy Olyphant were required to finish the shoot.
So, will this bad publicity colour how Alien: Earth performs? We’ll have to wait and see. However, if the series doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, don’t forget, Alien: Romulus is set to scurry onto the big screen on August 16th.
