Clive Barker is on board to executive produce HBO’s upcoming Hellraiser television series!
The series, which is being shownrun by Mark Verheiden (Swamp Thing), is intended to continue and expand on the Hellraiser mythology, with Pinhead remaining the centerpiece. David Gordon Green (2018’s Halloween, Halloween Kills) will direct the pilot and additional initial episodes. Michael Dougherty (Trick ‘r Treat, Krampus) is writing alongside Verheiden.
“[I’m] delighted the Hellraiser mythology is seeing a new life,” Barker said in a statement. “It’s time the stories went back to their roots. I’m eager to bring to a new audience the most powerful and ancient elements of horror: the darkest evil invading our human lives and how we must find in ourselves the power to resist it.”
This is the first time that Barker has had any credited involvement in a Hellraiser adaptation since Hellraiser: Bloodline in 1996. Other executive producers on the project include Gordon Green, Dougherty, Verheiden, Dan Farah, Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee, Lawrence Kuppin, David Salzman, Eric Gardner, Andrew Farah, Adam Salzman, Danny McBride, Jody Hill, and Brandon James.
