Silent Hill fans had just about given up hope that Return to Silent Hill would ever see release. First announced in 2022, and completing principal photography in 2023, the project sat on the shelf for over two years. However, just over a month ago that all changed, when Terrifier distributors Cineverse acquired the film for a wide theatrical release.
Now, we’re thrilled to report that Cineverse has issued a release date for their newest acquisition! Return to Silent Hill will begin haunting screens on January 23rd 2026.
Initially, major studios passed on the property, citing a lack of interest and commercial viability in the brand. The third instalment in the video-game adaption series was even passed over by its former distributors Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures.
Return to Silent Hill is the latest in a series of high-profile acquisitions for Cineverse, who have become quite the entity, thanks to the success of the Terrifier franchise. However, Return to Silent Hill is undoubtedly the biggest property they have snared to date.
Said to be a “faithful” adaption of the hit video game Silent Hill 2, Return to Silent Hill brings Christope Gans back to the franchise. Gans had previously directed 2006’s Silent Hill, and will again serve as both writer and director on Return.
The movie stars Jeremy Irvine, Hannah Emily Anderson, and Evie Templeton, and an official logline describes the game adaption as:
“Following James (Irvine), a man broken after his relationship with the love of his life, Mary (Anderson), ends. When a mysterious letter from her calls him back to Silent Hill, he finds a once-recognisable town transformed by an unknown evil. While James desperately searches for Mary, he encounters terrifying creatures and begins to unravel the mystery of what happened to the town.”
We have little doubt; every Silent Hill fan will be in line on January 23rd 2026 for the Return!
