It’s only been a few weeks since Christopher Landon announced his departure from Scream 7, but the filmmaker certainly isn’t wasting any time.
As reported this past week, the Freaky director has signed on to direct Big Bad, a werewolf tale for Lionsgate.
The film will be based on a short story of the same name by New York Times bestselling author Chandler Baker. The 59-page story was initially released as part of the Creature Feature compilation for Amazon kindle, and sat alongside works by the likes of Joe Hill. Baker is also aboard the adaption to pen the screenplay.
As per the official logline, in Big Bad:
“The Strauss family is on a knife edge. Sam is a resentful stay-at-home dad. Rachel feels the restlessness in her blood returning. Their children are getting out of hand. And a recent mudslide has forced the wolves out of the woods to look for food. As dusk falls and tensions rise, the family must come together to survive the night—from the threats outside and those within.”
Described as “devilishly chilling,” we have no doubt Christopher Landon will retain the chills on the big screen.
It seems the filmmaker wasted no time finding a new home in a new sub-genre. With Wolf Man and now Big Bad, could we be seeing a huge lycanthropic resurgence on the horizon?
