After being drip-fed information for the past year, we finally have a solid update with the announcement that prolific British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor has joined the cast of Venom 3.
Ejiofor is likely most recognisable to Marvel fans for his turns as Karl Mordo in the Doctor Strange series. However, the actor has been a prolific character player in Hollywood for quite some time, receiving an Academy Award Nomination for his turn in 2013’s 12 Years a Slave. He has also appeared in 2009’s 2012, 2015’s The Martian and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and The Lion King in 2019.
Venom 3 is set to be directed by series scribe and producer Kelly Marcel; however, little is known about the film’s plot or potential characters. Aside from announcing the film was in development and that lead actor Tom Hardy will be returning, Sony have remained tight-lipped on further details.
Ted Lasso actress Juno Temple was said to be “in talks” last month to join the production, but no official casting announcement ever materialised. Similarly, Venom co-star Michelle Williams expressed a great interest in reprising her role as Anne for the third instalment, but was “waiting for the invite.”
The film does not currently have a release date in place, but is likely to arrive in October 2024, 3 years after the success of Venom: Let There Be Carnage scared up an impressive box-office haul. We will report any further developments as we have them.
