Seems like Warner Bros. just couldn’t resist giving us one last taste of Alien: Romulus as its August 16th release date grows ever closer.
In a final trailer for the flick, we are given a little more context as to why our leads have found themselves in the predicament they’re in.
Cailee Spaeny stars as Rain Carradine, a member of an illegal salvage team. It is their mission to raid abandoned space stations for any useable tools or equipment, and sell them on for profit. Thus, the group stumbles across the seemingly abandoned Space Station Romulus.
Of course, all is not as quiet as it seems, as the Xenomorph lifeform gestates quietly within the bowels of the station.
Very much evoking the vibe of Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s 1986 sequel, Romulus looks to be taking a back-to-basics approach with the franchise formula. Here it looks like good old-fashioned cat-and-mouse fun between a gang of misfits and a blood-hungry beast.
Set thirty years after the events of the 1979 original, Romulus also stars Spike Fearn, Aileen Wu, David Jonsson, and Archie Renaux.
Easily one of the most anticipated genre films of the year, Fede Alvarez’s offering might just be the shot of adrenaline the Alien franchise needs.
The movie is set to hit screens on August 16th, with select theatres selling tie-in Xenomorph popcorn buckets. Consult your local chain to see if they are participating in the promotion… although we can’t guarantee they don’t bite.
