CAST & CREW REFLECT ON HOST’S IMPACT 6 MONTHS ON

Posted on: February 19th, 2021

Unless you’ve spent lockdown in a cave, you’re bound to have heard of last year’s breakout horror hit, Host.

But, for those remaining few yet to be acquainted with it, the entire film takes place on a Zoom call in which six friends have arranged to join a medium for a séance during lockdown. With most of them pretty sceptic about the whole thing, one of the girls decides to pull a prank and makes up a story about some boy she knew in high school who hung himself. Unluckily for them, a demonic presence doesn’t appreciate the group’s sense of humour and what started out as an innocent experiment turns rapidly turned into a night of sheer terror that is being compared to found footage favourites such as Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez’ The Blair Witch Project and Stephen Volk’s Ghostwatch.

As Host is about to get another lease of life in the form of a limited edition Blu-Ray release through Second Sight Films in the UK this coming Monday, February 22nd, 2021, SCREAM dared to hop on Zoom with writers Gemma Hurley & Jed Shepherd, actress Seylan Baxter (the film’s medium) and VFX Supervisor Steven Bray. They reflected on the huge impression the film has left on audiences around the world over the past few months and took our pop quiz to discover which horror (and very non-horror) movies played an influence on this critically acclaimed British horror sensation that everyone’s talking about.

We’ll leave you with the video below, but before you watch, we suggest muting your audio and turning off your camera just in case. Happy spookies…
