Fear not zombie fans, because The Walking Dead will be returning to our screens on 11th October with a feature-length 90-minute episode to kick of Season 6. There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the new season; where the story will head and what new characters will possibly make an appearance. Now, we have an official synopsis which is as follows:
Season 6 starts with Alexandria’s safety shattered by multiple threats. To make it, the people of Alexandria will need to catch up with our survivors’ hardness, while many of Rick’s people will need to take a step back from the violence and pragmatism they’ve needed to embrace. These reversals won’t happen easily, or without conflict.
But now, Rick’s group is fighting for something more than survival…
They’re fighting for their home, and they will defend that at any cost, against any threat, even if that threat comes from within.
Additionally, as expected by many of you, Tom Payne has been cast as Paul ‘Jesus’ Monroe; a badass gay character with amazing combat skills. ET broke the news with set photos that revealed Payne to be donning long hair and a beanie, just like Monroe sports in the graphic novel. Despite seeing the importance of fictional gay characters, Robert Kirkman has said, “I want Jesus to be a character where his sexuality is as unimportant as Rick or other heterosexual characters. So we won’t focus on it constantly and it won’t be the focus of any big storylines for him.” This is understandable, we’re in an era now where someone’s sexuality shouldn’t really matter, but it’s still great news for The Walking Dead and could lead Monroe to be one of the most iconic gay characters on television.
Greg Nicotero will be directing the first episode of Season 6 ‘First Time Again’ with the specific synopsis, “Rick and the group are still having trouble assimilating into Alexandria. Will a new threat bring them closer together or drive them further apart?” I hope the group are brought closer together!
Be sure to tune in to The Walking Dead on 11th October.
